I suppose every blog requires some sort of an introduction to the blogger in question, even though I hate doing them - I never know if I've said too much, or too little. I also never know where to start these bloody things either.
Well, let's start out with the hopefully obvious - this is a blog about My Little Pony. While most of it will be focused on the current incarnation (Friendship is Magic/G4) of MLP, there will be flashbacks to prior incarnations.
You see, I got into ponies back when I was a little girl, and they first came out. This is now called Generation One, or G1 for short; this was the only version of the show that had humans involved, and I sort of miss Megan, Danny and Molly (maybe not so much Molly and Danny as Megan...). Back then, they were sort of the connection between the viewer and the ponies, I think.
Mom bought me A LOT of ponies, to the point of where I believe I have the entire G1 collection and part of the G2 collection. About a year ago, we hauled them out of storage because I was considering selling them on eBay, but never quite got around to it; I'm kinda glad I didn't. Unfortunately, I haven't had the massive amount of room it's going to take to go through all of them; what I have looked at so far is still in pretty good condition, however there are some bits that have had minor discolouration. Hopefully I can find a way to fix that.
Somewhere, I may still have the majority of the episodes on VHS, however we've not tackled all the boxes of videos we have since everything's gone to DVD.
Even though I stopped playing with my ponies, I wouldn't let my mom get rid of them. I kept a rather decent interest in horses throughout most of my teenage years, and would occasionally take a look at the MLP section of the toy store to see where they'd gone with it. I really didn't get all that interested in G2 and G3, largely because I just didn't watch TV much anymore and the ever present lack of time adults suffer from.
Now, due to medical issues that have rendered me disabled, I have a lot of time on my hands.
A friend of mine, in the middle of a Magic: the Gathering draft party, mentioned something about Doctor Whooves. Now, there had been brony jokes directed at him for a while, but I really hadn't caught on to anything until I asked about the whole Doctor Whooves thing. See, I'm a huge fan of Doctor Who (yet another thing I watched as a child and rediscovered as an adult), so there was major curiosity.
A few weeks later, beginning of this January basically, I decided to Google on it. I started in with the YouTube videos that pulled up, and ended up watching most of them. I liked the new art style that was being used for the ponies, and the bits and pieces of the main story that showed up in Doctor Whooves and Assistant got me curious.
I happened to notice a little link on the Cheezburger network entitled My Little Brony. The memes were pretty amusing, though I didn't understand a lot of them since I hadn't seen the series just yet, but I noticed one that cited Danny from G1 as the original brony. This led to investigating the Brony community and catching more bits and pieces of what the actual show was like; it was pretty clear it was a lot better than prior attempts to revive the franchise.
So I've started watching the episodes. I actually watched the first two episodes of Season One while waiting to go to a midnight Magic: the Gathering release. Usually in public, I rate about a Fluttershy on the outgoing/extrovert scale, but I was at a Rainbow Dash for the entire thing - even after it was way, way, way early in the morning and the cards were starting to get blurry.
My friend asked me what the hell had gotten into me, and the only thing I could think that was majorly different came out as one word.
"Ponies."
So, I made accounts for various websites, started lurking in the general Brony community. And looking at the art. OMG, my deviantART favourites are now something like 80% ponies, 20% everything else. I check Ponibooru many, many times a day just to find new arts and look through every Drawfriends thread I can find on the websites I'm signed up on.
I'm still catching up on the episodes. I kind of decided I was going to blog about the progression, mostly to figure out why there was such a noticeable impact that first day.
And that's why this blog is here, really.
